2019 Volunteer Participation Survey Report 

 

We are always looking for volunteers to help our committee at the FREE John Franklin Christmas Lunch,

which is held at Sutherland Entertainment Centre, Eton Street, Sutherland each year on Christmas Day.

 

What Help is Needed?

There is a variety of tasks that we need help with, such as welcoming and talking to guests, serving meals, waiting on tables, clearing dishes, control of gift distribution, entertainment (more job descriptions below).

 

When and How Much Time Does it Take?

The Lunch takes place on Christmas Day from 11:30am to 2:30pm.  Volunteering time slots are indicated on the application forms.   If you can’t make Christmas Day then perhaps you can give up a little of your time to help with preparation on Christmas Eve or the clean-up on Boxing Day.  

 

Main Job Descriptions

Set up Team – Christmas Eve – Decorations to be hung; tables to be set up, kitchen and food preparation to be organised; gifts to be wrapped – from approximately 9:00am

 

Christmas Day – blow up balloons, finalise decorations, table set up and food preparation.

 

Greeters, Ushers and Hosts – In this role you will be asked to meet and greet our guests and volunteers, and provide name tags.  Maitre’d to co-ordinate Ushers to direct guests to tables.   Hosts to ensure guests are looked after by sitting with and engaging them in friendly conversation.

 

Kitchen Staff – This involves food preparation on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.   In this role you will be asked to help plate–up the traditional Christmas lunch for the waiters to serve to the guests.

 

Waiters and Waitresses – If you are assigned to this task you will be required to serve each of our guests with their meal, condiments  and refreshments.  You will also be required to clear tables and re-set for other guests.

 

Gift Distribution – Volunteers are required to assist guests in choosing a gift and donated food items.

 

General Assistants –This team is made up of First Aiders, entertainment staff, choir members and musicians, photography, those assisting with transport and other general duties.

 

Boxing Day - A limited number of volunteers required after 8:0am to finalize cleanup; removal of decorations; and transport items to storage.

 

Volunteer Positions

 

An email confirming the allocated position and time slot will be sent to each Volunteer by mid-December.
