About Us

Since 2001 the John Franklin Christmas Lunch is an event jointly run by St Patrick’s Catholic Church and St John’s Anglican Church at Sutherland to provide a free Christmas lunch to those who are without company on Christmas Day.

Our first lunch was attended by a meagre 25 persons and was held at the St Patrick’s Parish Hall.   The numbers steadily increased and we quickly outgrew the Hall.

We now provide a wonderful Christmas Day lunch for in excess 500 people at the Sutherland Entertainment Centre, all with a ‘need’ - homeless; single parents; young families struggling financially; lonely persons, particularly the aged and disabled, and the list goes on.

The day consists of providing a sit down Christmas lunch in a wonderfully decorated atmosphere.

Activities, including Christmas carols performed by our choir, take place during the event to entertain our guests and add to the festive occasion.

The organising committee is assisted by a team of volunteers who help stage the event over the Christmas period.  We are always looking for more people to help, so if you would like to lend a hand please go to the Volunteers page.

The Lunch is generously funded by financial and product donations from individuals, schools, churches, community groups and commercial enterprises throughout the Sutherland Shire and neighbouring areas.

This event is held in a smoke-free environment and alcohol is not permitted on site
